Role Description

A San Diego law firm seeks a Biotechnology Patent Attorney to join their team. The attorney will work with clients in biotechnology, bioinformatics, biopharmaceutical, and diagnostics sectors, handling patent-related activities and IP due diligence.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with early- to mid-stage clients in biotechnology and related fields
• Coordinate invention disclosures with clients
• Draft and prosecute US life sciences patent applications
• Manage foreign patent application prosecution
• Perform various patent analyses:
• Patentability
• Landscape
• Freedom-to-operate
• Validity
• Infringement
• Support IP due diligence for:
• Investments
• Mergers and acquisitions
• Joint ventures
• Collaborations
• International licenses

Qualifications

Experience and Registration

• 5-8 years of patent attorney experience
• USPTO registration (required)

Education

• Undergraduate degree in life sciences (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, organic chemistry, or immunology)
• Advanced degrees (MS, PhD, JD) preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Strong biotechnology and life sciences knowledge
• Excellent patent application drafting and prosecution skills
