Role Description

A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chemical Patent Attorney to join their team in Columbus, OH. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in chemistry, chemical engineering, or bio-sciences, coupled with experience in patent preparation and prosecution. This role requires excellent analytical, writing, research, and communication skills, along with superior attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in the areas of chemistry, chemical engineering, and bio-sciences
  • Conduct thorough patentability searches and analyze technical documents
  • Draft and review patent applications, ensuring clarity and compliance with legal standards
  • Communicate with clients to understand their inventions and provide strategic legal advice
  • Respond to office actions and correspond with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Provide legal opinions on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement issues
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in patent laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal professionals within the firm to deliver optimal client outcomes
  • Maintain strong client relationships and provide ongoing patent-related legal counsel
  • Assist in intellectual property litigation and enforcement matters as needed

Qualifications

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Undergraduate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, bio-sciences, or a related field

Certifications

  • Admission to the State Bar and in good standing
  • Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Experience and Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution
  • Proven experience in handling complex patent matters
  • In-depth knowledge of patent law and USPTO procedures
  • Strong technical understanding of chemistry, chemical engineering, and bio-sciences
  • Excellent patent drafting and prosecution skills
  • Strong legal research and analytical abilities
  • Proficiency in managing multiple patent matters simultaneously
  • Superior attention to detail and organizational skills
