Trainee Patent Attorney Role

Daily Responsibilities

As a trainee patent attorney, you will:

• Grow into an independent consultant for innovative organisations under intensive supervision
• Start working in the field immediately while attending patent attorney training courses
• Advise clients on intellectual property using your Engineering expertise and legal skills
• Support clients in managing and developing their patent portfolio
• Be involved in all aspects: from patent application to possible defence

• Opportunity to take part in various projects within NLO (Artificial Intelligence working group, social responsibility working group, etc.)

Training and Education

Official Professional Training Program

• Three-year course sponsored by NLO
• One day a week of training
• Learn to write patent applications, understand grant procedures, and administrative/financial aspects

NLO Academy

• In-house learning programme
• Topics include patents, trademarks, legal skills, client relations, and soft skills
• Training by expert colleagues
• Networking opportunities with new colleagues from various NLO offices

Required Qualifications

• Japanese patent attorney in Engineering (mechanical/electrical/telecommunications/software)
• Fluent in Japanese
• Qualified Japanese patent attorney
• Interest in diving deep into different technical issues
• Enjoys interacting with clients, giving advice/assistance
• Solution-oriented mindset
• Fluent in spoken and written English (Dutch is a plus)
